What is a NVQ?
A National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) is a certificate of vocational education which demonstrates your competency in the work place. NVQs are available to people of all ages, and have no entry requirements. There are five NVQ levels.

Will I have my own tutor?
Yes. You will be allocated your own Assessor who will help you to build a portfolio of skills that you can put into practice straight away whilst you work towards gaining your qualification.
Is it distance learning?
No, it is work-based learning. Learners are fully supported by tutors and are assessed in the work place.
How long will a course take?
That's up to the learner. Most people need between nine and twelve months to complete their course, depending on how quickly they want to achieve and the level of qualification they choose.
Apprenticeships
What is a Modern Apprenticeship (MA)?
A Modern Apprenticeship is a nationally recognised training programme/qualification for those 16-24 years of age who have completed full-time education or are already in employment. It offers one the opportunity to start a career through a combination of learning and work experience.
How long does the Apprenticeship take?
Apprenticeship = Approx 1 year
Advanced Apprenticeship = Approx 2 years
Who is eligible for the Apprenticeship programme?
Staff must be between the age of 16 -25 years old
Be Working 16 hours a week
Not in any other form of Government funded education
Not hold a degree
Be a European Citizen
What will it cost?
Funding is available in certain areas of the country through Government initiatives. Please call to discuss accessing this funding in your area.
What qualification will I receive?
You will receive a nationally recognised certificate from an awarding body such as Edexcel or City and Guilds.
What does the qualification cover?
Typically, the qualification consists of the following:
- Technical Certificates
- Key Skills: Keys Skills learning is undertaken at different levels depending on which apprenticeship is chosen. The six Key Skills are: Communication; Application of Number; Information Technology; Working with Others; Improving Learning and Performance; Problem Solving.
- National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs): these are vocational awards that are achieved through assessment and training.
Will I have to do any tests for the qualification?
Yes. There are multi-choice questions and are taken within the workplace. However, you do not need to sit these until you feel you are ready to do so. This will be any time during your qualification and can be taken until successfully achieved.
What is the Apprenticeship qualification equivalent to?
An Apprenticeship is equivalent to 5 GCSEs
Can I sign up for an Apprenticeship even though I have not achieved any other qualifications?
Yes
Will I have to spend time away from the workplace?
No, we will come to your workplace by appointment to support and assess you or your staff throughout the qualification.
What will the Assessor do when they visit your workplace?
They will help you understand the standards required, and they will deliver training in the areas that need attention.
The assessments will be carried out by observation and evidence collection.
What is evidence?
It is proof of competence and is collected by you whilst undertaking your job throughout your qualification. Once all the evidence required to meet the national standards is collected the qualification will be achieved. Evidence is collected from your work/performance in your job. The evidence is stored in a portfolio which we supply to you.
Will there be much disruption in the workplace?
All assessment and verification will be conducted in the workplace in cooperation with managers and staff, therefore, disruption is minimal. The initial appointment takes approximately and 1.5 hours and subsequent visits take about an hour and take place every 2-3 weeks.

Costs / Funding
How is the training funded?
Much of our training is funded by the government which means minimal or no cost to the employer or learner.
Is there a penalty for not completing?
No, but don't forget that if you leave your course without qualifying then you will not be issued with your certificate.
