2 BTEC Award in Security Operations
The qualification is endorsed by the Security
Industry Authority (SIA) and fully meets the approved standard
of training required for the SIA Security Guard Licence. Core
competency training for security guarding is delivered in two
stages as follows:
Part 1: Security Guarding
- Explore the roles and responsibilities of
security officers in the security industry
- Investigate the systems used by security officers
in the security industry
- Explore safety awareness for security officers
in the security industry
- Examine communication methods required by
security officers in the security industry.
Part 2: Communication and Conflict Management
for Security Guards
- Investigate customer care for security operators
- Explore communication skills for security
operators
- Explore conflict management for security operators
- Examine situations leading to conflict.
Duration: The course is normally delivered over
four days with an average training day of 7½ hours
Level
2 BTEC Award in CCTV Operations (Public Space Surveillance
The qualification is endorsed by the Security
Industry Authority (SIA) and fully meets the approved standard
of training required for the SIA Security Guard Licence. Core
competency training for CCTV Operations (Public Space Surveillance)
is delivered in two stages as follows:
CCTV Control Room Principles
- Understand the purpose of CCTV systems and
the role and responsibilities of the operator as they relate
to reporting, confidentiality and the operation of equipment
- Know about codes of practice, procedures,
manuals and secure communication in the control room
- Understand the legislation surrounding CCTV
operation and how to deal with incidents and surveillance
- Understand health and safety at work and fire
and emergency procedures inside and outside the CCTV control
room.
CCTV Control Room Practices
- Be able to operate CCTV equipment
- Be able to communicate in the context of CCTV
operations
- Be able to use CCTV equipment and surveillance
techniques
- Be able to apply relevant legislation to CCTV
operations.
Parts of the course will involve classroom based
theoretical periods and practical periods, Part two will be delivered
in a control room with a number of scenarios being completed.
Duration: The course is normally delivered over four days with
an average training day of 7½ hours
INVQ
Level 2 in Providing Security Services (PSS)
The qualification is endorsed by Skills for Security
(Formerly SITO) and has been developed by Edexcel to recognise
and accredit excellence in a range of security disciplines including
CCTV, Static & Patrol Guarding, Controlled Entry and Incident
Control.
Duration: The NVQ is normally
delivered as a bespoke qualification over 4 to 16 Weeks
Apprenticeship
in Security
The apprenticeship is endorsed by Skills for
Security, the Security Industry Training Organisation (Formerly
SITO) and would suit current security officers who wish to gain
a nationally recognised qualification and anyone interested in
security as a profession. It consists of the NVQ Level 2 in Providing
Security Services (PSS), the Security Operations Course (including
the 2 day Conflict Management element) and Key Skills at Level
1 in Communication , IT and Application of Number.
Duration: The framework/programme
is usually delivered over 3 – 18 months

BIIAB
Level 2 National Certificate for Personal Licence Holders (England
& Scotland)
The qualification is nationally recognised and
is primarily designed for anyone authorising the retail sale of
alcohol in licensed premises including:
- Pubs and bars
- Hotels and restaurants
- Off-licences, supermarkets and convenience
stores
- Sports and social clubs nightclubs and entertainment
establishments
- Any other venue or site where alcohol is sold
Scope of the qualification:
BIIAB’s Level 2 National Certificate for
Personal Licence Holders covers the syllabus set by Government,
to enable candidates to understand the law in relation to:
- The role and legal responsibilities of the
personal licence holder, and the penalties relating to failure
to comply with the law
- The premises licence
- The content and purpose of operating schedules
- The role and duties of the designated premises
supervisor
- Unauthorised licensable activities
- Permitted temporary licensable activities
- Rights of entry to licensed premises
- Police powers with regard to suspension and
closure of licensed premises
- The specific prohibitions for the sale of
alcohol
- The strengths of alcoholic drinks, and the
effects of alcohol on the human body
- The protection of children from harm
- The responsible retail sale of alcohol.
- The roles, responsibilities and functions
of licensing authorities within the framework of the licensing
objectives
- The application process for a personal licence
Duration: The course is
normally delivered in one day with an average training day of
7½ hours pre reading is advised (All pre reading material
will be provided).
Level
2 BTEC Award in Vehicle Immobilisation
The requirement now exists for Vehicle Immobilisers
(wheel clampers) to be qualified and authorised in England and
Wales under the Private Security Act 2001. This means that from
this date any Vehicle Immobilisers operating without an SIA licence
are breaking the law. PDM offer the appropriate training in order
to allow individuals wishing to work in the extended Security
related sector of Vehicle Immobilisation to comply with this legislation.
As with many other SIA training standards, the
course is broken into two separate parts;
Part 1: The Vehicle Immobiliser
- Investigate the roles and responsibilities
of vehicle immobilisers
- Examine working practices
- Investigate practical vehicle immobilisation
techniques
- Explore the specialist knowledge required
by vehicle immobilisers.
Part 2: Communication & Conflict Management
- Explore communications skills for vehicle
immobilisers
- Investigate proactive service delivery
- Explore conflict management for vehicle immobilisers
- Examine situations leading to conflict.
Parts of the course will involve classroom based
theoretical periods and practical periods, some periods will be
conducted outdoors and all periods will require maximum learner
involvement. Parts 1 & 2 of the course will culminate in a
1 hour written test.

four days with an average training day of 7½ hours
Level
2 Certificate in Conflict Management (1884)
This qualification is designed for staff whose
working environment may require them to deal with verbal abuse
at work. It will provide them with the skills to:
- Assess and reduce the risk of conflict and
violence in the work environment
- Identify behaviour that indicates an escalation
towards violence and take appropriate measures to avoid or calm
and defuse the situation
- Provide post incident support and use the
circumstances of the incident for personal and organisation
learning
The Level 2 qualification comprises an element
of pre-study and an element of practical skills training.

of 7½ hours
Level
3 Certificate for Deliverers of Conflict Management Training (1886
The SIA has specified conflict management training
and assessment as a requirement for licensing for all security
operatives who interface with the general public. Trainers who
deliver conflict management training for the qualifications for
licensing must hold an SIA endorsed and QCA accredited trainer
qualification in the delivery of scenario-based conflict management
training. This course is delivered in two parts and certification
is through Edexcel.

Level 3 Diploma in Delivering Learning
This qualification is designed for staff whose
working environment requires them to deliver training. (The SIA
stipulate that those delivering Licensing Security Courses must
hold a recognised Teaching Qualification) this course will provide
the knowledge and skills to:
- Identify learners’ needs, backgrounds
and aspirations
- Define basic principles of teaching &
learning in relation to teaching/training
- Demonstrate, in their planning, delivery and
evaluation, regard for equal opportunities and health and safety
legislation
- Develop their skills in devising programmes
and schemes of work
- Adopt a systematic approach to planning learning
sessions by reference to a variety of methods, and develop innovation
in their teaching/training
- Design, make and use a range of teaching and
learning materials, using their own creative and information
technology skills
- Develop their key skills
- Apply communication skills in their teaching/training
- Design and apply appropriate means of assessing
their own learners
The Level 3 qualification comprises an element
of pre-study and an element of practical skills training.
Duration: The course is normally delivered
over 5 days with an average training day of 7½ hours. It
will then require self study/tutorials to complete the 8 assignments.
NVQ
Level 2 in Controlling Parking Areas
The qualification is endorsed by Skills for Security
(Formerly SITO) and has been developed by City and Guilds to recognise
and accredit excellence in the field of controlled parking. There
are four pathways to this qualification.
- Display parking control
- Barrier and pay station control
- Vehicle clamping
- Vehicle removal
Duration: The NVQ is normally delivered
as a bespoke qualification over 4 to 16 Weeks
